Blockchain Meets Africa with #Africardano

The beautiful thing about blockchain is it can be used for more than just cryptocurrencies. Most blockchain networks are adopted into different sectors that need the characteristics of blockchain technology. More importantly, the technology is being spread worldwide as Cardano seems to be doing with its work in Africa.

Cardano is a blockchain that provides its users with the tools and technology needed to make the impossible possible by shaping blockchain governance, establishing business standards, and supporting the Cardano community. Cardano this year started implementing smart contracts to its network. Cardano, whose native currency is ADA, has initiated its reach to Africa.

Cardano Africa 2021

Cardano has laid great emphasis on initiatives that are based on the blockchain. For a time, the organization has had its sights set on Africa, a burgeoning center for bitcoin innovation. Cardano, through EMURGO, has invested in several startup projects to boost the adoption of the blockchain network.

One of the most significant announcements from the Cardano Summit was EMURGO's $100 million investment in Cardano-focused projects. These startups would receive varying degrees of assistance, ranging from financial to educational if needed.

Hoskinson’s Africa Tour

Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has the vision of expanding blockchain adoption worldwide, hence his vision for Africa. His plans for the future include a tour of Africa, which would begin in South Africa and hit various countries in the continent. Ending the two-week social media hiatus, Hoskinson tweeted his plans for the future after the Cardano Summit.

Ethiopia

Cardano's parent company, Input Output Hong Kong(IOHK), will work with Ethiopia's Ministry of Education to help 5 million children and teachers with a blockchain-based digital identity. This is the world's largest blockchain implementation to date. This technology will develop a nationwide attainment monitoring system using Cardano and Atala PRISM, certifying grades, measuring school performance, and improving education.

South Africa

In his speech at a Cape Town event, Hoskinson said he believes Africa will play a significant role in the global future. He elaborated that Africa will be one of the first countries to start using and producing blockchain-based products in their economy, business, and other spheres.

Tanzania

There's no explanation for why Hoskinson chose the countries he did, but the reason behind the trip to Tanzania is unknown. "Democratize access to digital, financial, and social services in Africa" was a goal set by IOHK and World Mobile Group.

In Tanzania, the World Mobile Group is delivering solar-powered energy to roughly 200 people. World Mobile will use Cardano to provide long-term Internet connectivity to its Tanzanian consumers, and IOHK will purchase a 10% stake in the company.

Charles Hoskinson's next destination will be in Burundi, an east African country. We can’t wait to see the exciting developments that await!
