I must admit, I was excited after watching Mark Zuckerberg's recent keynote speech on October 28 (quite similar to how I feel whenever I watch "Ready Player One"). Zuckerberg announced Facebook's name change to "Meta" during the event. The new name reflects the company's increasing aspirations beyond social media. However, I thought it could be fascinating to consider how the Metaverse plays a role in the crypto community.
What does "Metaverse" even mean?
Metaverse does sound like a sequel to an Avengers movie. It's been dubbed "the next generation of the Internet," "you will be inside an experience," and an "embodied Internet," among other things. The Metaverse deals with augmented and virtual reality (VR and AR). In the Metaverse, we will be able to work, play, shop, and socialize.
The Metaverse will provide a new way of looking at the world around us. We will be able to create an avatar of ourselves that we can use across platforms and spaces. And we will be using different types of tools, perhaps virtual reality headsets or smart glasses, to gain access to this virtual space.
Within the Metaverse, we can also create virtual spaces and invite others to join us. For example, if someone wanted to see the Spartans, they could travel to a different era. You might even choose a geographical place for an activity, such as fencing via hologram.
How is the Metaverse adopted in the "Cryptoverse"?
As digital companies like Facebook and Microsoft attempt to construct enormous alternate universes that transcend our physical world, metaverse coins are all the rage right now — and they have the potential to upset our world. Below are some metaverse projects that are currently on the blockchain network.
● Decentraland
Imagine Clubhouse but a "virtual world" built on the blockchain network, Decentraland. Decentraland is a digital environment that is modeled after the physical world. It was created in 2015. Users can interact with other members by attending virtual events, playing games, trading digital products, and attending virtual events. MANA, a cryptocurrency based on the Ethereum blockchain, allows users to establish virtual property ownership.
● Star Atlas
The year 2620 is depicted in Star Atlas, a virtual game environment. The main in-game currency of Star Atlas, based on Solana, is ATLAS. ATLAS can be used to purchase digital assets, including warships, troops, land, and weapons.
It is all quite interesting, isn't it? Well, I, for one, can't wait to explore the Metaverse!
Do you know what I would want to do in the Metaverse? Date nights!!! All those in long-distance relationships get to have anniversary dates, birthday dates, apology dates, and so on.
